Web App Design and Coding for Birthcare Marketplace

The Overview

A small team wanted our help designing and developing a custom web app that will be integrated into WordPress. The web app aims to facilitate the connection between doulas, midwives, doctors, and expecting mothers.

Several features were required including dynamic calendars, a custom search engine with filters, a multi-marker map, user profiles, a booking system, a user matching system, a membership system with various payment options, a custom WordPress plugin, and a custom WordPress theme design and coding.

The new site had to cater to two user types, patients, and service providers. The front-end site and the web app needed special consideration for these two user types. Service providers also needed sub-member types.

Our Solution

We wanted to create a look and feel that would set this new website and accompanying web app apart from the competition. That started with color scheme selection, sourcing key graphics, and customizing the original logo.

Two key landing pages were designed, with almost identical layouts but with a focus on the two different member types. This was achieved with variations on the header banner area, where we used relevant icons, and alternative twists on the primary value proposition copy. This was important to maintain consistency and efficiency in the design process.

The member-exclusive web application was built as a separate component with no external dependencies. It includes all the key features including various features based on member type.

To tie the app to the frontend site, a WordPress plugin was created to act as a middleman between the WP system and the app core. This was critical to maintaining separation between the website and the member system.
